Information Technology, A Division of Information Services

KU Information Technology (IT) offers an extensive array of technologies and services to the KU community. From email to internet, web-based academic and administrative systems, to software and virus protection, IT delivers innovative services in support of learning, scholarship, and creative endeavor to KU.

Physical Infrastructure
Technology Platforms Information Technology Security System Design and Delivery
Physical infrastructure includes the planning, design, and implementation of our telecommunications infrastructure (the cables and conduit needed to support voice, video, and data), the planning and design for our data center spaces (including our server rooms and our distributed wire centers), and the design and support of how the information flows across our network.
  • Capacity management and support of our cable and physical spaces (includes activities such as HVAC and power management, to name a few)
  • Installation and maintenance of our cables, servers, and network equipment
  • Information flow management
  • The technology platform groups are responsible for making sure that the technology platforms necessary to support KU are reliable, available, and secure.
  • Install, configure and maintain the operating systems for all enterprise systems
  • Manage the storage, backup and recovery strategies for KU
  • Manage the database administration functions for KU
  • Support the systems and application environments as needed
  • Application Infrastructure Support (implementation, configuration, and maintenance, as well as tier 3 support for applications)
  • Information Technology Security is responsible for compliance issues related to information security, defining the security framework based on the needs of the KU campus, and the monitoring activities associated with remaining vigilant.
  • Define the appropriate encryption, authentication, and authorization strategies
  • Perform risk assessment, forensic investigations, and security awareness training associated with compliance activities
  • Perform systems scans and other monitoring activities to ensure the campus is as safe as possible
  • Work with others in the KU community on how best to secure the entire KU enterprise
  • System Design and Delivery analyzes, designs, develops, deploys and supports applications needed by the KU community. The focus of these systems is on the entire KU enterprise.

    Information Analysis and Design Service Management and Delivery Planning and Administrative Services
    Information Analysis and Design analyzes, organizes, and integrates all types of university data into information for meaningful access by the KU community of scholars, students, staff, and decision makers using standards appropriate for management throughout its anticipated lifecycle.

  • Service Management and Delivery provides technology excellence by responding with agility and simplicity to the complex needs of the university at all levels from high-level concept to simple question. We value collaboration with campus partners in planning, delivering, and assessing technology services and value our people as the most important resource we have in assuring service quality.
  • Customer Relations and Service Delivery focuses on service delivery. This includes call-in and on-site desktop workstation support, call-in help, user account management, web site resources, public computing/academic lab support, network operations center support, and residential housing technology assistance.
  • Constituent Services focuses on making sure that our services are appropriately managed. This includes project and construction management services, as well as constituent support and outreach services. Constituent support and outreach services is focused on packaging support for user communities. This includes support for campus software license management, and support for students, scholars, technical liaisons, and instruction.

    Administrative Services is responsible for the care and well-being of our staff, as well as for the care and well-being of the business of IT.

  • Strategic Process and Planning Integration Management
    Process Management provides an integration point for delivery of services provided by Information Services' units in order to ensure that services provided are aligned to the needs of campus.
    IT Planning provides forums to discuss and evaluate proposed technical solutions or new services at different stages of their development.
